Three years ago today a friend, classmate, and teammate of mine passed away due to injuries from a car accident. To this day she has remained in my thoughts and in my heart, because of moments like this one. Mackenzie Goode, you always have and will continue to makes me smile.

The best of the best. My favorite finds greatest deals. Pants, coats, sweaters, dresses, shoes, CDs, a lamp or two.

Sperry Top-Siders - $20 (usually $60) L.L. Bean leather hunting boots - $5 (usually $120) Adidas Sambas - $6 (usually $60)

Four formal dresses, all of which I bought for specific occasions and didn't pay any more than $20 for any of them.

A functioning Polaroid camera, a never-been-used LIFE board game, multiple sweaters, and a striped shirt of my school colors.

Jet, Sugar Ray, Snow Patrol, and of course Backstreet Boys, each for $2 or less.

Can We Go Thrift Shopping?

Over the past few years I have come to love shopping at thrift stores. I could spend hours in a Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any old thrift store looking at every little thing that catches my eye and consider buying it. It’s that feeling that you get when you find something awesome for such a small percentage of the price it would be anywhere else that makes me want to go back again and again to see what else I can find.

It’s the best when you find that one awesome thing tucked away on the back of a shelf or between hangers on a rack. Then when you get complimented on it, it feels even better to say that you only payed $3 for it. It might be a random piece of artwork, a super comfy sweater, designer jeans, a leather coat or a CD that you listened to everyday when you were eleven. Whatever it may be, when you realize that you’ve found it and that you’re not paying anything close to the original price for it, it makes your day and you earn some serious bragging rights.

For example, while searching through the coat racks in a local thrift store near my school I happened to find an orange corduroy L.L.Bean coat for $8. With the tags still on it. And of course there’s the three Backstreet Boys CDs that I found for $2 each at the Goodwill in town. Who could resist that? A genuine leather American Eagle belt for $3? Sure, why not? Or how about a pair of Adidas Sambas shoes for $6, which run for about $40-$65? You won’t find a better deal anywhere else.

There are so many salvageable treasures to be found in thrift stores. It’s a shame that there are so many people who are too pretentious and stuck up to appreciate the things you can find at thrift stores that would cost a week’s paycheck anywhere else. I take pride in being the kind of person who prefers to get more out of the money I spend on things that I actually use, rather than spending an exuberant amount of money on something that will never be used or will be unusable in a short amount of time. It just makes so much more sense to me.

I’ve always had a piano in my house, but it’s very old and out of tune, so naturally I wanted one of my own. When I couldn’t think of anything to put on my Christmas list I remembered my desire to have a piano keyboard, so I wrote down the specifics and voila, there it was under the tree. Now I can put my rusty skills to use and we’ll just have to wait and see what comes of them.
